Promoting eco-tourism in Calicoan Island: Full speed ahead
Now I can say I was there. I am referring to what could be the most beautiful place in Eastern Visayas – Calicoan Island in Guiuan, Eastern Samar.
Oh yes, I’ve been there before, many times in fact.
But it is a different and much better setting now because of its amenities and the tour packaging they have started to do, including the Aquaculture and Nature Park where you can enjoy being in lush greeneries (with monkeys loitering all around), then into a set of ponds where you can order bangus and tiger prawns (and eat them right there, or bring home as pasalubong). And the trek up 107 steps to a Sai Shanti Yoga Sanctuary to a porch that provides a panoramic view the island and the Pacific.

FOURTH
QUARTER 2006
ECONOMIC PERFORMANCE
More
positive than negative signals about the economy were eminent during
the period. Generally, the economy continued to be productive.
Looking
at the bright side, the major contributors to the economy, especially
the hog and poultry industry and fishery sectors sustained modest growth.
Likewise, mineral production, public construction, air and land transport,
exports, business climate, housing and tourism sectors performed well.
On
the bleak side, major crops production was slow. Sea transport and energy
sectors were ...

NEDA
VIII Implements Japanese-Funded KR2 Project
|
|
By the closing of year 2006, the NEDA Regional
Office VIII has endorsed to Central Office fourteen
(14) initial projects worth P5M for funding under
the Productivity Enhancement Project otherwise known
as NEDA-KR2 project. The NEDA-KR2 project which is
under the RP-Japan Grant Assistance for Underprivileged
Farmers, officially started at NEDA VIII in October
2006.
The
fourteen endorsed projects emerged from around two
hundred (200) project concepts received by NEDA VIII
from November to December 2006. These were chosen
after a series of screening activities undertaken
by the office.
The
first activity was a series of orientation forums
held at NEDA in November 2006 attended by local chief
executives/representatives of local government units
(LGUs) as well as state colleges and universities
(SUCs). During the forums, participants submitted
project concepts for initial evaluation by the NEDA
staff.
Within
five working days from submission of project concepts,
LGUs who got positive evaluation on their project
concepts were advised to prepare the full-blown project
proposals.
Proponents were also asked to present their proposals
orally before a panel consisting of NEDA-KR2 project
management and implementation team members and technical
experts from government agencies like the Department
of Agriculture (DA), Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic
Resources (BFAR), Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA)
and Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
For
projects that scored favorably in the above stages,
the NEDA-KR2 teams visited the projects on-site to
verify the information in the proposals. Finally,
in a plenary session, the NEDA-KR2 teams ranked the
proposals based on a Prioritization Criteria crafted
by them.
Internally
at the NEDA VIII, the KR2 teams underwent training
on project evaluation with focus on the evaluation
of the market, technical, organizational and financial
viability of projects
