| NEDA Conducts Disaster Risk Management Workshop |
|
The
NEDA Regional Office VIII particularly the economic development division
coordinated and conducted a regional workshop on mainstreaming Disaster
Risk Management (DRM) in sub-national development and land use planning
in the Philippines last December 12, 2006 at Ritz Tower De Leyte
The workshop
was a preparatory activity of the project proposal with the same
title to be funded by the UNDP.
The said project aims to mainstream disaster risk management in the regional plans and strengthen the capacities of regional planners in formulating the desired DRM measures to prevent and/or mitigate the impacts of natural disasters. The components and expected outputs of the project are (1) guidelines and special studies; (2) training/workshop sessions; (3) disaster risk management component. The workshop was participated by the regional land use committee (RLUC) member agencies, and other stakeholders who all identified capacity gaps so that the project components can be further designed to respond to these deficiencies. The
workshop was also assisted by facilitators from Regional Development
Coordination Staff of NEDA Ce– RDCS. It is expected that the detailed planning and implementation of the project will start in February 2007.
