| A project aimed at improving the delivery of health services in Eastern Visayas has just been approved by the Investment Coordinating Committee (ICC)-Cabinet Committee in a deliberation meeting held last August 28. After having being okayed at the Cabinet level, the project is now pipelined for sure funding by the Japanese government through the Japan International Cooperation Agency.
The project called Urgent Strengthening of the Health Delivery and Referral System was proposed by the Department of Health Center for Health Development Region VIII with cost estimated at P573.906 billion. It aims to upgrade health centers, establish an efficient inter-local health zone referral system, strengthen advocacy on preventive health programs, and provide well-equipped training facilities, a half-way house for mothers with infants under intensive care, and laboratory for students/health workers to hone their skills in community work. The project, slated to start in 2005, is seen as instrumental in the implementation of the government’s Health Sector Reform Agenda, which is meant to redound to a healthier citizenry of Region VIII. |
