The reference period for the Labor Force survey is the past week referring to the past seven (7) days preceeding the date of visit of the enumerator or interviewer. Definition
of Terms: Labor Force - refers to the population 15 years old and over who contribute to the production of goods and services in the country and who are either employed or unemployed. Labor Force Participation Rate
- proportion of persons in the labor force to total population 15 years
and over. (This is expressed in percent). Employed - includes persons
in the labor force, who are either at work even for an hour during the
reference period, orwith a job or business but not at work. Unemployed - consists of persons in the labor force who have no job or business and actively looking for work. Also considered as unemployed are persons without a job or business who are reported not looking for work because of the belief that no work was available or because of temporary illness, bad weather or other valid reasons. Unemployment Rate - proportion of unemployed persons to the total labor force. (This is also expressed in percent). Not in the Labor Force - These are persons who are not at work or without job and are not looking for work for reasons other that those previously mentioned (see definition of unemployed). These include housewives, students, disabled or retired persons, and seasonal workers who are not working and not looking for work during the survey period. Underemployed - includes all employed persons who express the desire to have additional hours of work in their present job or an additional job, or to have a new job with longer working hours. Underemployment Rate - proportion
of underemployed persons to total employed persons. (This is expressed
