FAMILY INCOME & EXPENDITURES

The Family Income and Expenditures Survey (FIES) is a nationwide survey of households undertaken every three years by the National Statistics Office (NSO), It is conducted simultaneously with the quarterly Labor Force Survey (LFS). The FIES gathers data on family income and family living expenditures and related information affecting income and expenditure levels and patterns in the Philippines.

Generally, data on income and expenditures of families in the country are needed to assess the living conditions of the population and the changes occurring over time. These serves as the bases of the government in formulating policies and designing programs geared toward the improvement of the quality of life of the Filipinos. FIES data also provide information for the estimation of the consumer price index (CPI) and in the estimation of the country's poverty threshold and incedence. The data gathered are likewise used by the private sector in business decision making and market planning activities.
